Here is the story they provided us about Joseph, a client being helped.
“Joseph” had been experiencing housing instability for over three years, almost since he turned 18 and was working with NWYS to get connected to housing. His chronic health conditions, in addition to living outside, had led to a continuing cycle of hospital admission and discharge. When COVID-19 hit, it threatened to undo all his progress – but Joseph didn’t let it. Working with NWYS’ team, Joseph was able to access a hotel as he and staff pursued options for more permanent housing. NWYS’ team in Skagit County got Joseph connected with Community Action and DSHS and found a solution: Joseph was able to get a ‘HEN’ referral, which helped him get into an apartment and stabilize. His story is one of the reasons NWYS exists: to stop youth from slipping through the cracks in the homeless response system.
